MOM's Debuts Upcycled End Cap

Mom's Organic Market is leading the call for foods and beverages made with upcycled ingredients with an end cap filled with upcycled products.

Awareness of such products has grown thanks to the Upcycled Certified label which has landed on 140-plus products and ingredients from 28 companies, since its introduction in June. “We project these products and ingredients will prevent more than 703 million pounds of food waste annually,” said Leah Graham, marketing director at the Upcycled Food Association. And that’s just the beginning.

A study from Future Market Insights found that the food waste industry is worth $46.7 billion with an expected CAGR of 5 percent for the next 10 years. The next step is education to make “upcycled” a household word, as a 2021 study published in Food and Nutrition Sciences revealed that only 10 percent of consumers are familiar with these products.

The innovation will get their attention, with items like Reveal’s ready-to-drink beverage brewed from upcycled avocado seeds, and Good Fish’s crispy salmon skins, a twist on chips that are protein-packed.
